Sri Lanka

We spent a couple of days exploring Colombo and Yala National Park in Sri Lanka. Colombo was beautiful, historic, and clean. The food was brilliant, the people were friendly, and the weather was perfect. Yala National Park was a four-hour drive from Colombo, and we saw plenty of peacocks along the highway. The Cinnamon Yala Resort was nestled in nature, offering stunning views of lakes and the forest.

During our bird-watching excursion, we witnessed a dramatic scene where fearless house dogs chased a large deer into crocodile-infested waters. The crocodiles killed the deer within seconds, providing a gruesome glimpse into the harsh realities of nature. We also spotted over 30 species of birds. Despite the rain, our safari was wonderful. We saw numerous elephants, mongooses, deer, bison, and even a leopard that darted across the road too quickly for us to capture a photo.

On our way back from Yala, we drove through Galle and had lunch in the picturesque Hikkaduwa beach town, which gave us Goa vibes. We also visited a turtle sanctuary and were amazed by the incredible conservation efforts of the locals to protect the turtle population.
